The Mothers Union.
The Mothers Union was started in England in 1876 by Mary Sumner, an Anglican
clergyman's wife. She wished to enable mothers to fulfil their responsibility
for the material and spiritual well-being of their children.
With one million members in 60 different countries, The Mothers Union is the
largest Christian women's organisation in the world.
The Aims and Objectives of The Mothers Union
- To uphold Christ's teaching of the nature of marriage and promote its wider understanding.
- To encourage parents to bring up their children in the faith and life of the Church.
- To maintain a world-wide fellowship of Christians united in prayer, worship and service.
- To promote conditions in society favourable to stable family life and the protection of children.
- To help those whose family life has met with adversity.
The Mothers Union Mission Statement.
The Mothers Union is a Christian organisation that promotes the well being of
families world-wide.
We achieve this by:
- Developing prayer and spiritual growth in families
- Studying and reflecting on family life and marriage and their place in society
- Resourcing our members to take practical action to improve conditions for families, both nationally and in the communities in which they live.

Pudsey Parish Church Mothers Union
At Pudsey Parish Church, St Lawrence and St Paul, we have a very active group of 76 members between the age of 30 and 97 years old. Our branch was 100 years old in 2003.
We are involved in providing premature baby clothes for the Bradford hospitals.
We also provide toiletries for the woman's refuges in Bradford, as women who leave
their homes may leave without anything and we try to help in a small way.
The Diocese has opened a drop in centre for the Asylum Seekers and two of our
members help out there.
The holiday caravan the Diocese has at Primrose Valley is used for families who
are unable to afford a holiday. This is used throughout the season.
It is not only for Church families, people are often referred by Health Visitors.
We are here to help families in need.
We hold a meeting in the afternoon of every other Tuesday, in the body of Pudsey
Parish Church, we can get up to 50 attending.
Once a month we have an evening meeting.
We have various speakers.
We care for each other in times of need.
It is a place where people can come and have fellowship with others and often strong friendships are formed.
